Concept project · not a real hotel

Lal Ghat · Old City · Udaipur

A havelion the water.

Eighteen rooms on the ghats of Lake Pichola, in a house built for waking up to the lake.

The house

Built in the 1880s by a family of textile merchants who wanted to wake up facing the lake. We kept the view, the neem tree and the forty steps down to the water. The rest we restored slowly, by hand.

40Stone steps from the courtyard to the lake

Three reasons to stay.

01 · On the water

Real ghats, not a lake view from the road.

The house steps straight down into Pichola. Our boat leaves from the bottom step.

02 · Eighteen rooms

Small enough to know your name.

No lobby queue, no buffet line. The family still runs the house.

03 · A living haveli

140 years old, and still lived in.

Chai at seven, music some evenings, and a neem tree older than the house.

From the water

Tap the haveli.

This is the house as the boatmen see it. Tap a marker to look inside.

The haveli seen from Lake Pichola: off-white carved facade, jharokha balconies and stone ghat steps down to the water

Five places to look. The card closes when you tap the marker again.
